Location

George Dixon Academy is located in the Ward of Ladywood, in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham.

The area is one of the most multicultural in Birmingham and the UK, with inhabitants originating from around the world. Whilst the area has significant social challenges such as high unemployment and economic disadvantage, George Dixon International School has developed links with a wide range of partnerships to work with parents and students to ensure families are supported and children are not disadvantaged in school.

Key local attractions

The school’s close proximity to the City Centre provides excellent access to the benefits and facilities of Birmingham – which include outstanding shopping facilities such as the Bullring shopping centre and an extensive variety of museums, theatres and cinemas and a wide range of lively nightlife. The school is close to Edgbaston Reservoir for leisure activities such as picnics, jogging, angling or rowing and there are a number of other local parks and sporting facilities and teams to support such as Edgbaston Cricket Ground, local football teams such as Aston Villa and Birmingham City Football club. This all combines to make the city a great place to live and work.

Getting to our school

Several bus routes link the area to Birmingham city centre, about 2 miles (4 km) away – see bus map below. Five Ways train station is the nearest rail link for the school – with trains running between Redditch and Birmingham New Street. There is a good road network – the nearby Hagley Road links Birmingham City Centre with Junction 3 of the M5.
