The ABB FIA Formula E Championship will return to London from July 2020, with the UK round hosted at ExCeL. The event will utilise a unique 2.4km circuit, with the starting grid located inside the venue. It will be the world’s first ever indoor / outdoor race. Formula E is the closest, most progressive category in motorsport, bringing electrifying racing to some of the world’s most iconic cities, including Hong Kong, Rome, Paris, New York and from next year, London. The championship attracts internationally renowned automotive brands, including Nissan, Audi, Jaguar and BMW, with an audience of 35 million worldwide.
History
ExCeL London opened in November 2000, in an area of huge regeneration in London’s historic Royal Docks. Today, the venue hosts over 400 events per year, welcoming 4 million visitors, from every corner of the globe. ExCeL’s vision is to be the home of world leading events.
The business wants the very best events in the world to find a home there, from exhibitions and global brand showcases to international association meetings and congresses. Each year, what happens at ExCeL generates £4.5bn in economic impact for London and supports 37,600 jobs. Under the ownership of ADNEC, the venue has seen significant investment in new facilities, including the opening of London’s International Convention Centre (ICC) and onsite hotel developments
