Transitioning from the private sector to the public sector was one of the best decisions I've made for my career. From my first day at the University of Edinburgh, I've worked with a team who have genuine commitment to my success. I was initially concerned that steep learning curve of public sector regulations would be intimidating but the support within the team and training sessions have really made expanding my procurement knowledge easy and stress free.

The onboarding process at the University really helped to make the jump into public sector procurement easy with the provision of supporting material, training events, and one to one time with team members. Every step was designed to make me feel welcomed and equipped to contribute effectively. The support I received from my colleagues made sure that that I quickly felt like a valued member of the team.

What really sets the University of Edinburgh apart is its dedication to making a positive impact in the wider community. The sense of purpose that comes with serving the not only the students and research community within the University but also the public in the Edinburgh area is incredibly fulfilling.

I wholeheartedly recommend the University of Edinburgh to anyone considering making a change and working in the public sector. Not only will you find a supportive and inclusive environment, work on exciting and varied procurements, but you'll also have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for the community.

I was drawn to the University of Edinburgh after reviewing their very informative website and I enjoyed exploring the rich history. I immediately felt welcomed and wanted to join their team - it has happened and I am enjoying every moment of it!

The team have made me feel very welcome and included which made the transition into a new position especially during times of some remote working, much easier .

The opportunities to make a difference at the University of Edinburgh is endless, and the effects of your work goes beyond academia. This is what has attracted me to the University, and my experience so far has exceeded my expectations.

The working environment is very pleasant and welcoming, the challenges are wide ranging and equally rewarding. We are building a world class procurement team, and I invite those who wish to be a part to apply to come on this journey with us.

I wanted to work with University of Edinburgh in delivering high-quality high-value goods and services for the future academics of Scotland, getting the experience of delivering large scale projects with a multitude of stakeholders from an array of departments. The University offers breadth of scope both internally to the team with different roles and through delivery of different procurement projects across the various expenditure categories.

To summarise my thoughts on the University of Edinburgh I ask the question, would I recommend it? Yes, without a shadow of doubt. I’d encourage any enthusiastic procurement professional to join the University of Edinburgh team. You will develop both through the experience and development opportunities available.

Sean Marshall MCIPS

I wanted to work with the University of Edinburgh with a view to assisting in the delivery of the Service Excellence Programme. I knew that The University of Edinburgh would provide me with the opportunity to experience the delivery of a vast range of projects which concerned a diverse group of stakeholders from different schools and colleges whilst driving forward value and strategic partnerships in all aspects of my role. Further to this, I enjoy working for the University and would undoubtedly encourage other driven and enthusiastic professionals to pursue a career with such an employer. The diversity in supply chain management is unparalleled and opportunities are available to progress your career, for example, whilst in another role, I realised my aspirations were within Contract Management – transferring to the Contract Management team has allowed me the opportunity to assist in leading transformational change within the Department and University as a whole.
