The Finance team at the Council is dedicated to ensuring trust in the stewardship of the Council’s finances. You will enable other services to fully explore their potential through expert guidance, and ongoing support.
Your New Role
You will act as a primary finance contact and support services across the Council to meet their financial management responsibilities. You will be ensuring budget holders are empowered to make decisions, through the provision of training and appropriate access to financial information. Also, as the Finance Business Partner, you will advise on service activity and provide operational context for accounting transactions to aide with the auditing and scrutiny of the Council’s finances. There is an ongoing need to seek improvements to internal processes and feedback user requirements from within the services you support to meet the overarching goals of the Finance & Improvement directorate This role will also make investment and borrowing decisions to manage the daily cash position for the Council with assistance from the Head of Finance, along with carrying out the treasury management functions for the council and support the statutory responsibilities of the wider Finance Service.
What you’ll need to succeed
You will be AAT qualified or part-qualified in ACCA or CIMA or possess an equivalent qualification. You must have experience communicating financial information to non-finance teams at all levels and a solid understanding of Local Government accounting rules and regulations. You will be adept at interpreting and evaluating financial data and have excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external customers. Previous experience in coaching and mentoring within a Finance Team is essential, along with advanced Excel skills, including the use of SUMIFs, VLOOKUPs, and Pivot tables. Additionally, you will have excellent ICT skills to investigate financial transactions, solve problems, and identify solutions, as well as experience linking financial and non-financial data and an awareness of data analysis techniques.
