Welcome
Thank you for your interest in joining Doncaster School for the Deaf which is part of Doncaster Deaf Trust.
Doncaster School for the Deaf opened in 1829 as a school for Deaf children and we are proud that it is still a school for Deaf children today. The school has a strong identity and culture with a staff team that have a depth of knowledge, experience and skills in teaching and supporting Deaf children.
The school has developed and improved in recent years under the leadership of our current Headteacher which is reflected in the last Ofsted inspection in September 2023. You will have the opportunity to shape the direction, future and strategy of the school in the context of the next strategic plan.
You will be joining the Trust at a crucial time as good progress is being made on the current strategic plan and we are entering an exciting phase in the development of the next plan that will take us to 2030. Leadership is vital to maintaining the good progress we have made, and need to make, to realise the outcomes of our plans. The school is fundamental to ensuring the delivery of our plans and you will be joining an experienced and high performing Trust wide senior leadership group.
Our vision as a charity is clear
– to be a national leader achieving outstanding outcomes that improves people’s lives. We need to deliver the vision in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and nationally for children, young people and adults who are d/Deaf, Hearing Impaired, have Communication Difficulties, Autism or Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities.
As a charity, our purpose is to advance education, training and care for the people we serve and our strategic plan sets out how we intend to achieve that purpose. Your contribution will be vital and instrumental in ensuring the school plays a key part in our success. Partnership working and collaboration are key to the next stage of strategic development.
We are very pupil-centred in our approach and have high expectations in terms of pupils’ education, outcomes and long-term goals. Inclusion is at the heart of everything that we do and the specialist, tailored and individual programmes we provide are important to support pupil success.
Our children’s home was inspected by Ofsted in December 2024 and judged to be Outstanding for the eighth consecutive year. It is an important part of the Trust and is closely linked to the school. All the children in the home attend school and benefit greatly from the care they receive. Both services complement each other and have very close and strong relationships based on the needs of the children.
We have set high standards and expectations
in the school and across all of our services in the Trust. High quality provision is fundamentally important to our business model. Ensuring high quality education, support and outcomes is of paramount importance to help the school grow and maintain standards.
We are looking to appoint an inspirational Headteacher who will have a tangible impact on the school and play a key role in strengthening delivery and outcomes across the provision. Building on strong foundations, key priorities include partnership working, business planning, continuous improvement, developing innovation and developing people.
If you believe you are the person who can take our school forward please contact Martin Blair at Hays Leadership on 07736791138 or at martin.blair@hays.com for a private and confidential discussion about the role or to arrange a visit to the school.
This is a fantastic opportunity to drive, shape and inspire the next stage of the development of the school and contribute to the progress of the whole Trust. If you have the skills, experience, positive attitude and ambition we are looking for, I look forward to meeting you.
