Hays are excited to be working in partnership with Chelmsford City Council who employ around 900 people to provide services for the residents of Chelmsford.

Hays provide and support the council with recruiting for Waste Collection Operatives and HGV Drivers on a temporary to permanent basis. Candidates who we place in to temporary positions with the council are then given the opportunity to apply for permanent positions within the Waste Collection teams.

Chelmsford City Council are always looking to expand their teams and are looking for the right candidates who can help them to provide a waste collection service to their residents. They provide kerbside collections for trade waste, recycling and residual waste. The team is based at Freighter House, Boreham and their staff work in small teams across the City to deliver these services to the residents.

Anna Copping - Waste collection Operative (Recycling Loader)

When I was unemployed, a friend of mine recommended me to contact Hays to join their Chelmsford City Council contract. Hays were instantly able to get me a temporary job working at Chelmsford City Council. Since day 1 I have thoroughly enjoyed my job, I am not only benefitting financially but I’m motivated to work by, meeting new people and working in different teams and locations. Another major advantage of the role is that we only work between Tuesday and Friday, allowing us to enjoy an extended weekend. We often finish early during the week and get to go home, whilst still being paid for a full day’s work. I’m thoroughly enjoying my placement and I hope to be taken on as a permanent member of staff with the council when a vacancy opens up.

David Riby - Refuse / Recycling Driver

I signed up after hearing from a friend that Hays run a recruitment contract for the refuse and recycling centre at Chelmsford City Council. I was drawn to the position due to the flexibility of the role, as I work elsewhere and enjoy the elasticity of being able to work in two different driving jobs. It is encouraging to know that there is always work at the council when I require it. I have worked in this job for over a year and I enjoy working with the team at the council, the general public and working outside. The supervisors are always friendly and happy to help. Overall, it is a nice environment to work in. After working in many driving roles over the years and working long days and often far away from home, Chelmsford City Council offer the hours that are better suited for me to spend quality time with my family. I now have more free time and a better work life balance.
