The local community

"…work with the local community and with different faith groups ensures pupils have a sound understanding of different traditions, beliefs and values." Ofsted 2016

Broadway Academy is a very culturally diverse school - the majority of students are from Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani heritage, with a sizable and growing representation from Black and Eastern European heritages. This diversity is something which is celebrated at the school and strong partnerships have been fostered with the local community who also benefit from our new state-of-the art facilities – we have worked with over 80,000 community members on an annual basis through use of our amenities for sporting activities, evening classes etc.  To further develop community cohesion, our students take part in various activities such as a local “faith walk” to raise money for charity.

Local Facilities

The school’s close proximity to the City Centre provides excellent access to the facilities of Birmingham, England’s ‘second city’; these include outstanding shopping and eating out at the Bullring, Mailbox, and within the city centre, plus an extensive variety of museums, theatres and cinemas and a wide range of lively nightlife. The Perry Barr and Aston area has benefited from significant investment as part of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 delivery and the extensively refurbished Alexander Stadium, home to the famous Birchfield Harriers athletics team, is only 1.5 miles away from the Academy. For followers of sporting pursuits, the locality of Perry Barr also offers the speedway and greyhound racing track at Perry Barr Stadium and Aston Villa football ground is very close to the school. The local shopping centre – One Stop - is situated less than a mile away from the school and has around 60 stores providing a convenient alternative to the city centre. For those who enjoy outdoor activities there are a number of parks near to the school. This all combines to make Perry Barr and Birmingham a great place to live and work.
