Your new role

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Buyer / Senior Buyer to play a key role in the continued growth and success of some of our most important product categories. You will be responsible for sourcing great products that our customers will love – identifying range gaps and new opportunities, negotiating the very best prices, and then collaborating with teams across the business to turn your plans into action. You’ll also review and refine existing ranges, proposing and then actioning improvements. You’ll work closely with existing suppliers, as well as identifying and onboarding new ones. Your keen eye for detail and your analytical and commercial acumen will be key in ensuring we continue to offer our customers outstanding value-for-money and market-leading choice, whilst returning healthy profits and sustainable growth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen eye for market trends and strong negotiation skills, ideally with experience in eCommerce, retail, or the KBB (Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom) sectors.

  • Negotiation: Negotiate pricing and contract terms to improve margins and ensure competitive positioning.
  • Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Performance Analysis: Review sales performance and stock levels regularly, making adjustments to product ranges as needed.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing and merchandising teams to promote key products effectively.
  • Trend Analysis: Analyse search data to identify emerging trends and potential gaps in the product offering.
  • Strategic Input: Propose category changes and range adjustments to the Category Manager based on data insights.
  • Category Management: Take ownership of product categories and bring new ranges to market to enhance the product portfolio.
  • People Management: Oversee and support team members as required, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Supplier Visits: Travel both within the UK and abroad to visit suppliers and factories, scope out new suppliers, and assess new products.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience: 2+ years in buying, procurement, or merchandising roles, with proven experience in supplier negotiation and product selection
  • Industry Knowledge: Previous experience in the KBB industry or similar retail sectors is preferred.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships effectively.
  • Commercial Acumen: Excellent commercial awareness and a solid understanding of margins and profitability.
  • Analytical Skills: Data-driven mindset with strong analytical skills to interpret sales data and market trends.
  • Tech Proficiency: Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets for data analysis and reporting.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive and solution-oriented approach to challenges.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to visit the office (once or twice a month) and attend supplier meetings is required.

What you'll get in return

  • Friendly and casual work environment, great people culture and supportive manager
  • Incredibly flexible remote work policy or be in the office as often as you like – you decide!
  • Strong opportunities for growth and career progression
  • Excellent employee welfare and benefits including flexible work environment, team and company socials, free fruit and healthy snacks, dog-friendly office and more!
