About us

About us

Working at Ashlawn

At Ashlawn School, we create a high achieving and respectful culture for both our staff and students. This mind set is instilled from the moment students’ step into our school, and reiterated throughout their time here. As such, we find that our classrooms are calm and orderly which promotes engaging lessons and high levels of learning.

It’s clear that all the teachers at Ashlawn have a real sense of passion for working with children, and a real focus on developing the whole child by promoting excellence. Despite being a large school, we still have a strong focus on ensuring the care and wellbeing of both staff and students. As such, we have an onsite SEN Unit where students struggling in lessons or with particular difficulties can go for support and guidance. We also have a high contingent of TA’s to ensure that both students and teachers are supported as much as possible. We find that offering the same levels of care, guidance and support to our staff is highly important, as such all teachers will have a staff coach/mentor within their department to ensure that help is at hand whenever it is required.

CPD/Benefits

Ashlawn always look to provide numerous opportunities, and as a Teaching school, we are always looking for staff wanting the extra responsibility to mentor our trainees and, in turn, develop their own skills. As a school, we always look to provide as much career advancement opportunities as we can, and being a large school there is always room to progress. Looking to the future, we have decided to open a new school due to high demand for places at Ashlawn, this will further enhance the opportunity for progression and additional responsibilities across all subject areas and levels. We encourage extra-curricular activities, and encourage all members off staff to take part and bring in new ideas. There are certainly plenty of opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom. Ashlawn also offers additional benefits to staff such as the cycle to work scheme, free onsite gym facilities, a free meal per week, and, following 2 years of service, your children will get automatic guaranteed entry to Ashlawn.

Examination success

The 2016 exam results at Ashlawn were very pleasing, with 84% of our students making at least expected progress in English, and 72% in Maths. This lead to, yet again, almost three quarters of our students achieving A* - C in English and Maths. From our ever increasing grammar stream, the achievements were fantastic, with 100% of students achieving A*-C including English and Maths. Some highlight subjects from across the board were Biology (100% A*-C), Chemistry (96% A*-C), Computing (96% A*-C) and Physics (97% A*-C).

We had a good set of A level results from our large 6th form, with 79% achieving A*-C grades. Strong subjects include English Literature (92% A*-B), Creative Writing (100% A*-B), French (80% A*-B) and Mathematics (77% A*-B). With a brand new 6th form centre so our students have a dedicated space work, we expect fantastic results over the coming years.

Ofsted

Our last Ofsted inspection was in 2013, where we were judged “Outstanding” in all areas. Statements from the commentary include;

  • Students achievement has been impressive over a number of years. Attainment is consistently high and rates of progress above average.
  • Throughout the school, students experience a very high proportion of teaching that is outstanding or good.
  • Students’ attitudes to learning and behaviour are absolutely first-class. Students feel safe and are justifiably immensely proud of their school.
  • The sixth form is outstanding. Students of all abilities progress very well across a good range of study programmes, and develop the confidence needed to be successful in the future.

Our overriding aim is continue to uphold our “Outstanding” status and provide an excellent education for all of our students.

General Information

Ashlawn School is a large 11-18 bilateral school, and the most oversubscribed school in Warwickshire. We have 1750 students on role, 425 of which are a part of our ever expanding 6th form. In 2011 we acadamised, and in 2013 we continued to hold out “Outstanding” Ofsted status, this shows our long-standing ability to strive and achieve excellence. As a bilateral school, 10% of our students have taken grammar school exams, and for the first 2 years are taught separately. We are one of only 5 bilateral schools in the country, and as such our school produces some of the highest attainders in Rugby. On our large site, we have a gym, sports hall, assembly hall with a stage for performances, 2 dance studios and a number of music rooms. In September we opened a brand new 6th form centre, with improved space and facilities to assist with the learning and development of our older students. We have long standing head teacher who promotes a forward thinking ethos, replicated by all members of staff.
