Arun District is the largest district in West Sussex in terms of population (164,800 census 2021) and the third largest in terms of Council Tax Base (62,628 equivalent Band D properties). It includes the towns of Arundel, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton together with 27 surrounding parishes.

These are exciting opportunities for the right candidates to lead and deliver a fit for purpose accounting, and treasury management service that support the achievements of the Council’s objectives.

The Group Accountant will manage the Accountancy Team providing management and financial accountancy support to the Council.  Responsible for the formulation of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) financial strategy and policies, the budget and Council tax setting process; Collection Fund; revenue and capital accounting and financing. This is a pivotal post in providing high quality financial advice to Officers and Elected Members. No two days are ever the same.

The Service Accountant role is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to contribute to the delivery of a fit for purpose accounting service that supports the achievements of the Council’s objectives. You will provide support and advice to colleagues in other departments. In addition you will contribute to the compilation of the Annual Accounts, Budget preparation and monitoring processes. There will also be a number of technical projects to deal with.

The Council appointed a new Chief Executive earlier in the year and he will transform the Council. The successful applicants will be involved in assisting with this. Alongside this, the Council has been granted £19.4m from the Government Levelling Up Fund so there are undoubtedly some interesting and exciting challenges in the near future.

We are looking for a suitably experienced Accountants with excellent technical and IT skills.  Ideally, both will have sound accounting experience and good communication skills to develop into these varied roles.

The Council is currently operating a hybrid working arrangement which is subject to review. These roles will be based at Civic Centre/Bognor Regis Town Hall and some attendance at the Council’s offices will be required.
