Senior VP / VP job opportunity at
Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge
WELCOME
WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Thank you for your interest in the opportunity to be Senior Vice-Principal or Vice-Principal, responsible for Student Support at Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge (TASB).
It is an exciting time at our academy. The results we achieved in 2018-19 and 2019-20 mean that TASB is comfortably in the top 1% of the most improved schools in the country and makes the academy one of the highest-performing schools for progress in the Calderdale local authority.
This remarkable improvement is only the start of our journey. TASB aims to be the most transformational academy in England, and we are committed to doing the simple things well, all of the time. We are guided by our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, which run through every aspect of school life.
Although we are very proud to share the ‘Trinity’ name, we have our own unique and distinct identity. We reflect the local community that we serve, and offer a wide range of opportunities for students and parents to shape the experience that we offer.
That said, being part of a Multi-Academy Trust does bring a number of benefits. We are like-minded people who share the same values. We invest heavily in our people, teaching and support staff alike, because they make the difference.
At TASB we are committed to developing our staff. As such, this role will appeal to a number of prospective candidates: an assistant principal seeking their next challenge, a current deputy/vice principal looking to hone their leadership skills or someone who is looking for additional responsibilities and development opportunities so that, if they choose to, they would be ready to lead their own school within three years.
If you would like to be part of an academy that ensures that there are no ceilings placed on what young people can achieve, we look forward to welcoming you here.
If you think this could be the opportunity for you at this time, please do get in touch with Martin Blair at Hays Leadership on 07736791138 or at martin.blair@hays.com for a private and confidential discussion about the role. I look forward to meeting you in due course.

ABOUT US
ABOUT US
Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is an ambitious and inclusive 11-16 school with 800 students on roll. Following a period of support from Trinity MAT, the school formally joined the Trust in 2018. During this time there has been significant improvement in outcomes and the school is now oversubscribed in years 7, 8 and 9.
The remarkable improvement made since opening as Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is only the start of the journey. TASB aims to be ‘the most transformational academy in England’ and is committed to doing the simple things well, all of the time. The core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, run through and guide every aspect of school life.
Every single day the students are provided with a high-quality experience in a disciplined environment where behaviour is managed consistently. Students understand the high expectations and how to meet them, and those who do well are rewarded through the Behaviour for Learning Policy.
This approach, along with ensuring that the students are Known, Valued and Understood by all staff, has allowed the school to create an environment where students understand that there is no limit to what they can achieve.
There has, and continues to be, a significant investment in the professional development of the staff, offering bespoke CPD programmes for teaching and support staff at all stages of their career. These include a New Staff Induction Programme running throughout the first term for any staff joining the academy, including 10 Minute Tip coaches for the duration of the programme. QA indicates that 100% of new staff agreed that their induction was informative, provided key information needed and that there was good support from their mentor and other colleagues.
A unique and innovative staffing structure has been developed that enables the school to provide the very best learning experience for its students. It offers career progression, opportunities to develop and a chance to work on projects and developments that benefit the academy and influence the outcomes of the trust as a whole.
The school is outward-looking and seeks to have a careful blend of diverse experience whilst nurturing internal talent – 40% of the middle/senior leadership appointments were internal progression. Each member of the team makes a difference in the success of young people. All staff, whether teaching or non-teaching have the opportunity to be a form tutor and help shape the exceptional student support system.
When Trinity Academy Halifax opened in Calderdale in 2010 as a sponsored academy, its mission was to address more than a decade of underperformance at secondary school level in the north Halifax area. It has delivered, being rated as ‘outstanding’ twice and continues to support students to achieve results which will transform their life chances.
In 2015, due to the outstanding success of the flagship school, the Trust was established and now covers primary to post-16 education with organisations ranging in size from 180 to 1800 students. In the intervening period, the Trust has also established the Trinity Teaching School Alliance, the West Yorkshire Maths Hub and White Rose Maths. The trust's collaborative work through these initiatives has meant developing partnerships with thousands of other schools, both nationally and internationally.
The ethos of the Trust is simple – to ensure that young people in its care fulfil their potential. Everything it does is in pursuit of that one aim. The foundations are secure, formed by the commitment to inclusive education, extremely high standards for all and never accepting that ‘we can’t’. Indeed, there is a strong belief that ‘we can’, whatever the challenge might be.
Although every Trinity MAT Academy is united by common values and a commitment to teaching and learning excellence, each one is also a unique part of its local community, with its own distinct character.
