Your new role
You will be managing building services maintenance and repairs for a portfolio of schools and education providers across the Taunton and West Somerset region – a stunning area to work in!

There is a service to delivery, and targets to meet, however you will be given flexibility and freedom to manage your own time and workload within this role – the balance is important to everybody within the team.

As an Area Engineer, you will be dealing with a wide cross-section of engineering work, working with a wide range of different stakeholders and partners throughout. You will undertake property inspections in order to identify electrical and mechanical repair, maintenance, or replacement requirements across school buildings, whilst also monitoring and checking that engineering works are carried out in accordance with appropriate regulations and codes of practice, and in compliance with health & safety legislation.

  • Issue and authorise work orders on behalf of clients to approved contractors, specialist contractors, and suppliers.
  • Assist with the preparation of specification and tender documents for periodic servicing of electrical and mechanical installations, plant, and equipment.
  • Provide professional and technical advice and guidance to clients, analyse their requirements for alterations and improvements to electrical and mechanical building services.
  • Get involved in the preparation of the annual maintenance programme, ensuring statutory compliance, and overseeing the delivery of day-to-day repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this position, you should meet the following criteria as best possible, please schedule an exploratory conversation to discuss or gain clarity where required:

  • Demonstrate at least five years’ experience in a similar role covering a full range of building services engineering duties – this could be either working for a contractor, private consultancy, or for another public sector body.
  • You’ll need to be qualified to HNC / HND level, or equivalent.
