The council are looking to recruit a part time (22hrs per week) Senior Support Officer to join SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs & Disability, Information Advice and Support Service) on a term time basis until 31/08/2021. This will be reviewed and extended subject to satisfactory completion of the training provided during your first year.
You will be the first point of contact for families who are seeking information, advice & support around their child’s special educational needs (SEND). You will offer support & guidance in a range of ways; face to face at meetings, at support groups, at training events & workshops throughout the borough and over the telephone & email. An impartial but professional, friendly manner will be key to developing trusting relationships particularly when working directly with children and young people.
You will be undertaking casework for children, young people & adults (up to age 25) with special educational needs, with or without an EHC Plan and those who are considering applying for, or undergoing an assessment, including providing support with SEND appeals & tribunal processes.

To be successful in this position, it is vital that you have good knowledge & understanding of the SEN code of practice 2015 & the Children & Families Act 2014. You need to have knowledge of SEN processes in an educational setting, or have previous experience working in a SENDIASS service, or around appeals & tribunal processes to be considered for this role. Previous successful experience of building effective working relationships with parents, carers, & pupils with SEND is essential for this role. Effective communication is vital, as you will be liaising with parents/carers, education leaders, other agencies & community groups verbally & writing
