Digital Department Overview
They’re a team made up of over 100 dedicated individuals, determined to transform Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust's digital landscape. Launched in 2019, Portsmouth Hospitals’ Digital Strategy sets out their aim to deliver simple, secure, interconnected systems and tools that save time and effort, improving their ability to deliver excellent patient care. The Trust's Working Together Strategy identified the importance of improving their IT systems and infrastructure, delivering technology fit to support their people in the future.
What do they do?
A huge amount of work goes into supporting the technology that enables Portsmouth Hospitals (PHU) to run effectively. To support the Digital Strategy delivery and to drive transformation across PHU and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (ICS), there are seven key functions within their department. These functions are responsible for ensuring they can introduce innovative solutions, keep their networks and data safe, engage with staff, patients and partners, maintain and improve their current infrastructure, enhance their clinical products and information accessibility, successfully implement digital solutions and design standards to support new ways of working.
Digital Maturity
In 2021, Portsmouth Hospitals Digital Maturity rating was raised to Level 2 on the internationally recognised HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model. They are now on a journey to reaching Level 5, with the launch of a Trust wide strategic quality improvement and change programme which will see electronic diagnostics ordering, patient portals, the digitisation of paper medical records and much more.
