Shaping the Future of Smart Buildings: Meg’s Journey with Mitie
READ MOREMeet Meg, a Software Solutions Engineer at Mitie. With both her parents working as engineers, Meg was introduced to the field from an early age. Her father, a mechanical engineer, and her mother, a software engineer, instilled resilience and drive in her.
When Meg moved to the UK, she was determined to break into the BMS industry. When a Junior BMS role opened up at Mitie, she seized it. That decision marked the beginning of a transformative career path. “I started out doing trade work - installing air conditioners on construction sites,” Meg recalls. “But with Mitie, I transitioned into software-based systems. That’s where I found my passion.”
A Day in the Life
No two days are the same for Meg. Her work spans everything from optimising energy strategies for buildings, to supporting engineers with remote modem installations. She also develops intuitive graphics for plant rooms, helping clients better understand their systems.
Meg primarily works with Trend BMS systems, including tools like SET (System Engineering Tool) for sequencing and IQ Vision for graphical interfaces. These platforms allow her to blend technical precision with creative problem-solving.
Fueled by Curiosity
What keeps Meg motivated? The constant opportunity to learn.
“I need to feed my brain,” she says with a smile. “This job is ever evolving. There’s always something new to master, and that keeps me engaged.” Currently enrolled in Mitie’s Women in Leadership apprenticeship, Meg is preparing for the next chapter of her career - management. “It’s exciting to think about where this could lead. Mitie has been incredibly supportive, even nominating me for the program before I knew it existed.”
Meg’s message to future engineers is clear: believe in yourself. “Impostor syndrome is real, but your attitude and willingness to learn will take you far. If you want to do it - do it.” She also encourages women to support each other in the field. “At Mitie, we’ve built a network of women in engineering who lift each other up. That kind of community makes a huge difference.”
Proud to Be Mitie
What Meg loves most about working at Mitie is the visibility and impact of the company.
“Whether it’s seeing our vans on the road or reading about our projects, it feels good to be part of something bigger. We’re everywhere - and we’re making a difference.”
