Welcome to Mercy Ships,

18 million people die every year because of lack of access to surgery. This single fact explains exactly why Mercy Ships exists. In 2020 Mercy Ships is set to redouble our efforts with the launch of a brand new hospital ship, carrying out more surgeries and training more medics across West Africa than ever before. Having secured a UK Aid Match Grant for the first time to support our work in Senegal, expanded our UK operations and continuing to look to an expansive future, joining Mercy Ships couldn’t more exciting.

Our current Finance Director has recently been promoted to the role of Deputy Executive Director overseeing our marketing, communications and supporter facing teams. Therefore we now seek a highly experienced Finance Director to continue to develop our financial infrastructure. Having grown from c£4M in 2016 to over £7M turnover in 2019, Mercy Ships UKs growth into statutory funding requires a candidate who can continue to upskill our team and develop our systems.

Answering to the Executive Director, sitting on the leadership team, leading the Finance, Audit and Risk committee and working closely with the International arm of Mercy Ships in the USA, the opportunity has excellent room for growth and development opportunities. Mercy Ships has a culture of fast paced, high performing team players who engage socially as well as in the office. Inspired by the heroes of our story - the patients – we believe in achieving the best at every opportunity. A highly flexible team, Mercy Ships offers excellent working arrangements, secondment opportunities and opportunities to be part of additional projects.

If you are a candidate who thinks your financial leaderships skills can help to transform the lives of thousands then we’d love to meet you.

Good luck in your application

Lea Milligan
Executive Director
