We believe that the role of Legal Tech PSL at Ius Laboris is a terrific opportunity if you like legal technology and the buzz of cross-cultural working, as you will have the opportunity to work directly with lawyers from around the world on our new AI-powered employment law tool, Delphius, covering 55+ jurisdictions. For someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, this presents a unique and exciting opportunity.
This pack has been compiled to give you key information about the Ius Laboris legal Alliance and the role for which you are applying.
Why we need a Legal Tech PSL
Our new AI employment law tool, Delphius, was launched last October, already to great acclaim, as it is the most comprehensive and up-to-the minute AI tool dedicated to employment law across the world on the market at this point. So far it includes in-depth legal information on 16 employment areas – from recruitment, through all the issues that could arise during employment, to pensions – for 55+ countries, and rising. This provides, not only the law as it is today, but alerts clients to what is coming up in the next few months and how to prepare for it. Beyond that, Delphius also has an horizon-scanning feature that shows what is in the pipeline for the next couple of years.
Keeping all of that material up to date and continually developing new features requires dedicated people behind it - and this is why we are looking for a Legal Tech PSL now.
What your day might involve
Your main, but not exclusive, focus would be Delphius. You will work directly on updating existing content and adding new content; you will be involved in demoing and helping the marketing team with promotion; you will participate in discussions with lawyers from around the Alliance and, hopefully, suggest ideas for further development of the service – and then help implement them.
In terms of other work, we feel that it will be important for you to be directly involved in some of the other things we do, as there is an interplay between Delphius and other materials we produce. You would therefore also work on various international news updates for clients, in collaboration with our Expert Groups. Similarly, you may become involved in some of our thought leadership projects, particularly with our International Policy Group, which writes in-depth reports.
Who we are
The Content Team, of which you would be a part, are directly responsible for the content we put into Delphius, but we also create all kinds of legal, economic and business content, including webinars, maps, videos etc., on employment law topics for our website and extranet and write research pieces on the future of work, with the help of lawyers from across our Alliance. We have two permanent members of the Content Team based in Paris, plus one in London and one in Brussels. We don’t mind where you work, provided you are available to come to Brussels or Paris every so often for team meetings.
We are also responsible for the activities of our International Policy Group, which interfaces with supranational organisations such as the OECD and the International Labour Organisation. The Content Team’s remit further includes driving and coordinating our ESG efforts, both internally and as a service to our clients, via our Responsible Business Group. We also run our ‘University’ programme for junior lawyers worldwide, holding live University training courses in Europe and the Americas every year, along with occasional courses in the APAC region. With our Expert Groups, we run training sessions for senior lawyers on topics such as how to develop the business of their firms into new areas. Although your role would primarily be concerned with Delphius, you may well get involved in some of these other projects too.
The wider Central Team (of which the Content Team is a subset) is more or less exclusively based in Brussels, but the whole team works flexibly and we ensure to have regular live meetings for optimal functioning. The Central Team has been operating since the founding of the Alliance in 2001, but retains its original entrepreneurial feel. If you are interested in developing legal business but don’t want to be caught up in red tape, the Central Team is a good place to be. Each member of the team has the opportunity to be creative and make a genuine difference.
Key contacts
Frequent communication with a wide range of people across cultures is an important aspect of the role. Creating a network of people you can rely on to help you with the production of content is key to success. The language of the Alliance is English, but an understanding of other languages can sometimes be useful in this. Everyone in the Alliance is helpful and people usually find working within our ecosystem enjoyable. Your supervisor will be our Head of Research, Content & Learning, but you will also work regularly with the Head of BD and Marketing, the Executive Director, and all colleagues within the Central Team. Beyond that you will need to work closely with key partners and associates in our member firms and sometimes also with external suppliers.
Characteristics, Skills & Experience
The role of the Legal Tech PSL is suitable for someone who has worked either in private practice or in-house and has the skills of a PSL. You will need a strong aptitude for legal tech, the ability to keep track of legal developments in multiple countries and excellent editorial skills. There will be intermittent travel opportunities that go with the job, as we hold an annual Congress for our members, plus conferences and client events throughout the year, in which we promote Delphius.
