Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the post of Assistant Headteacher at Severndale Specialist Academy.

We are a unique multi-site special school committed to meeting the needs of over 430 children and young people encompassing all aspects of the SEND spectrum. Supporting communication and enabling independence is a key focus of our work. Pupils can access the school from age of 2 and potentially stay until they are 25. Provision is across 3 sites including the main Monksmoor Campus, the Futures site at Shrewsbury College and the Severndale@Mary Webb provision at a local secondary school. There is also access to a unique outdoor learning environment at Tickwood ensuring that Severndale pupils receive the best provision possible.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an excellent practitioner to join us as Assistant Principal and to play a significant role in the future success of the school. We are a new team that are developing at pace in a shared aim of becoming a national leader in SEND education. We are looking for a leader who has a genuine desire and drive to change the SEND landscape locally and beyond as well as being an energetic and pupil centred individual.

This is an exciting time to join Severndale as we begin the consolidation of a new diversity led curriculum and as Assistant Principal you will play a key role in the strategic development of the EHCP aspect of Severndale. This will involve ensuring that all EHCP provision is planned for and evidenced as well as supporting the admissions and transitions of Severndale pupils. In addition, you will lead one of the ‘phases’ and support the amazing class teams in delivering high quality education.

Our ethos and culture are clear in that every member of our team are focused on working together to ensure our pupils receive the absolute very best. We are proud to be part of The Learning Community Trust, a truly inclusive multi academy trust of 10 schools in Telford and Shropshire. CPD and training is a priority, and you will receive excellent opportunities for development.

We are looking for someone who is an excellent teacher with experience of working with SLD and complex needs young people who is ready to develop their leadership skills and work in one of the largest special schools in the country. You must have a positive attitude and believe in the ethos of working together to ensure Severndale pupils receive the very best provision that is available. Most importantly you must share and wholeheartedly support the academy vision of, ‘Enabling communication, independence and enjoyment for life’.

If that is you we would be delighted for you to visit and that can be arranged through our recruitment advisor, Martin Blair at Hays Leadership (T: 07736791138, E: martin.blair@hays.com) who is also available for an informal conversation about the role or to discuss making an application.

I look forward to receiving your application and meeting soon.

Yours faithfully

Brian Thomas
