View the opportunityWelcome from the Chairs of the Management Committee
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in the role of Director of The Altus School in Gloucestershire.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the transformation of Alternative Provision in Gloucestershire, building on the existing good practice to deliver a truly innovative alternative provision offer for all children and young people in the county who need it
This strategic post has been specifically created to drive the transformational agenda for alternative provision in the county. From September 2023 the two current alternative provision schools in Gloucestershire; Gloucester & Forest APS and Severn Valley School, will become one school, The Altus School. We believe it is essential that this school can support and champion the needs of our most vulnerable pupils through proactive, early intervention and support. To achieve this, we recognise that AP must work in partnership with mainstream schools to develop a stronger and more active role in the local education system. You will drive the transformation. Following extensive consultation with all stakeholders, there is support for this innovative change from all parties.
Our vision for The Altus School is to provide:
A high-quality alternative education where everyone thrives in a flexible, dynamic child-centred environment that champions inclusion and accountability across Gloucestershire
We believe transforming vision into reality will enable us to:
- Improve the life chances of our most vulnerable and challenging students
- Consider how the existing sites can provide welcoming and therapeutic environments for children, young people and families and be best used to support the increasingly complex needs of children and young people accessing AP
- Improve the consistency and quality of provision across the county
- Support staff, through an increased investment in professional development and specialist roles
- Create efficiencies and reduce workload on staff, through a reduction in the duplication of core activities
- Strengthen and scale up the focus on early intervention through structured partnership and outreach working
A Steering Group of Management Committee Governors and Local Authority officers is overseeing this transformation process. The Steering Group are excited to appoint a Director to implement our strategic vision and deliver the best possible outcomes for our young people. You will be an exceptional executive leader with ambition and moral purpose, who can demonstrate their impact on a growing organisation. Evidence of your ability to inspire, lead, enable and empower those around you will be key to your success and the ongoing success of the alternative provision school. This will include the development of strong and effective relationships locally, regionally and nationally to build networks to enhance the provision.
We are looking for a candidate who can balance the drive for improvement whilst ensuring that the wellbeing of our staff and young people is paramount. The successful candidate will be supported by a high-quality and committed team of governors, school leaders, teaching and support staff who place children and young people at the heart of everything they do.
