Thank you for your interest in joining Horizon Community College. This is a truly unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the provision of secondary education and lifelong learning opportunities within Barnsley. Opened in September 2012, Horizon Community College is one of the largest schools in the country, set within a £46 million new build campus.

Building upon the successes and strengths of our two predecessor schools, we provide a learning environment which opens up new educational horizons to our young people and their families and contributes significantly to the strength of local businesses and community groups in the area in which our school so proudly resides.

This year (2016) sees our best ever GCSE results, 68% of Horizon students gained 5 A*-C grades inc. English Language and Maths. This figure is above the national average and represents an astounding performance, building on results of 63% 5 A*-C (including Eng & Maths) in our first year. We now look forward to next year and the chance for our current Year 11’s to scale similar heights of attainment.

Horizon Community College provides the perfect environment to bring out the very best in the young learners, adult learners and members of the wider community. We are building an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and will learn to trust; where young people will learn the value of and experience forgiveness, compassion and care. We want our young people and their families to develop a love of learning; we want them to value learning, learn how to learn effectively, be excited by learning and develop a desire to continually learn throughout their lives – and we understand for this to become a reality year on year, we need the very best people to join our staff team.

Our school is going from strength to strength. Since our opening, we have had two sets of excellent GCSE results as well as being given a ‘GOOD’ from Ofsted in every category. I have no doubt that with the continued hard work put in from both staff and students the school will reach outstanding status shortly.
