Birmingham is a really great place in which to live and work; a city full of energy and enthusiasm. At the centre of the UK, the city is easily accessible by road, rail and air from the rest of the UK. And when the redevelopment of the new rapid transport systems is completed, travelling to and around the city will be even simpler. With the ‘Big City Plan’ taking Birmingham forward and the exciting ever-changing landscape of our city, Birmingham will keep on evolving and improving.

Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe, with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of our population. There are over 400 schools, 15 universities and three university colleges within one hour’s drive of the city. This youthfulness provides a relentless spirit and ambition which ensures the city has always got a new achievement, breakthrough, creative adventure or something else awe-inspiring up its sleeve. The appetite for progression is boundless. It has been a champion of innovation since the earliest days of the Industrial Revolution. Today it focuses its almighty research and development resources on developing the next generation of everything from greener transport to genetics, from regeneration to faster broadband speeds.

Birmingham has great theatres, museums and the world-famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, beautiful historical buildings and of course the iconic Library of Birmingham. It also has amazing concert and sporting venues such as the NEC, Edgbaston Cricket ground and Alexander Stadium. Dining out in Birmingham has something for all tastes with Michelin star restaurants across the city, Spiceal Street by the Bull Ring, the Chinese Quarter and the famous Balti Triangle.

Birmingham is still one of the most popular places to shop in the UK, with the big names including Selfridges, Debenhams and John Lewis already established, and new developments always adding to the retail experience.

The Council offers flexible working and has a number of office locations across the city.

The role will be based at the Council’s offices on Woodcock Street next to the Aston University Campus with close links to all bus and railway stations, with car parking available just a short walk away at Milenium Point.
